OXLEY TO SEEK RE-ELECTION IN HOUSE DISTRICT 73
ENGLISH – Dennie Oxley of English, recognized by key Statehouse observers as being in the forefront of the next generation of leaders of Indiana state government, announced today that he will seek re-election as 73rd District representative in the Indiana House.

Oxley is wrapping up his fifth term representing a district that includes all of part of eight counties across Southern Indiana. During that time, he has garnered acclaim for speaking on behalf of a number of initiatives that have benefitted rural Indiana, ranging from his ongoing efforts to bring equity to distribution of road funding dollars to his support this year for a plan that will provide close to $900 million in tax relief for Hoosier families.

“My district covers the largest area of any in the Indiana House, and the people who live and work here have a diverse set of interests and concerns,” Oxley said. “It has been my privilege to serve them these past 10 years, and I look forward to working with them in the halls of state government for years to come.”

In short order upon coming to the Indiana House, Oxley quickly established himself as an eloquent spokesman on such issues as property tax relief, education funding and accessible, affordable health care. He also drew attention in 2007 for his efforts to protect Hoosier motorists from high gas prices through a plan that drew bipartisan support in the House, but did not make it through the Indiana Senate.

Oxley’s efforts on these issues drew praise from, among others, Indiana House Speaker B. Patrick Bauer (D-South Bend).

“I believe the legislative process works best when partisan labels are set aside and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle work together to do what’s best for the people of Indiana,” Oxley said. “The last two sessions have demonstrated the way that government should work: passage of a balanced state budget that begins the process of providing lasting property tax relief and approval of a landmark program that provides coverage to thousands of Hoosiers who were without health care.

“This year, we passed a bipartisan program that will provide close to $900 million in property tax relief for homeowners, families, seniors and many others who need help during a time when the nation’s economy is struggling,” he continued. “Doing what’s fair always has been one of my priorities, and it should guide all of our work in areas like education for our children, public safety and providing quality, responsive services at an affordable cost.”

Dennie and his wife Jayme have two daughters: Demi and Audrey.

Oxley is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the National Rifle Association, the Milltown Masonic Lodge, the Indiana Farm Bureau, the Hardinsburg Lions Club, the Crawford County Jaycees, the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, the Murat Shrine and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, the Scott County Shrine Club, the Scott County Democrat Club, and the Fairview General Baptist Church.

Oxley received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Indiana University Southeast
